Push the limits of human experience.

Summary

High altitude trekking (>2500m) is at the heart of the ever-growing adventure tourism market, with over 10 million trekkers globally each year. At these heights, the body can fail to acclimatise to the lower concentration of oxygen. It is broadly termed as altitude sickness (AS). Nearly 50% of trekkers suffer from symptoms of AS, which can be fatal if left untreated.

ascenso pushes the limits of human experience with a new standard for safety. The baseline kit brings together a redesigned personal fitness tracker, non-invasive medical diagnostic methods and key knowledge presented in a card set.

Role

I led the operations from market research to simulation of product-roll out, keeping track of the product’s roadmap to deliver a business model, a live website, a pitch deck, initial monitoring algorithms and full design of an iOS app. As creative lead, I designed the wearable, balancing safety and enabling an optimised experience. I conceived ascenso’s brand identity as well as the full UI&UX of baseline’s iOS app.

Key challenge

There is a considerable lack of data on occurrences and triggers of altitude sickness. This issue meant we had to optimise our information acquisition processes to access key stakeholders in the industry.
